How this works

Assumptions

  • Both scenarios pay off the full balance over the same number of months.
  • Promo APR is assumed to last the entire payoff period — if it ends sooner, the remaining balance reverts to the regular APR.
  • No new purchases are added to either card during payoff.
  • The transfer fee is added to the new balance immediately.

FAQ

What if the promo period is shorter than my payoff timeline?

Then this estimate is optimistic. After the promo ends, the remaining balance accrues interest at the card's regular APR. Only transfer what you can clear inside the window — or shorten the payoff months to match the promo.

Does a balance transfer hurt my credit score?

It can dip temporarily: the application adds a hard inquiry and a new account, and moving the balance changes your utilization. Paid-down balances usually help scores recover within a few months.

How is the savings calculated?

We compute the total interest of paying off your current balance over the chosen months at your current APR, then subtract the transfer fee plus any interest during the promo period. Same timeline, both sides — the math is shown, not hidden.
