How this works

Assumptions

  • ROUGH PLANNING ESTIMATE ONLY — not a quote, not an appraisal, not a recommendation.
  • Rebuild cost is not market value: land doesn't burn down, so insure what it costs to rebuild, not what you paid.
  • Get a professional replacement-cost appraisal (or your insurer's estimator) before you buy.

FAQ

Why can't I just use my home's market value?

Market value includes land, location premiums, and market swings — none of which you insure. Rebuild cost is labor plus materials to reconstruct the structure, which is what Coverage A pays for.

What is the 80% rule?

Most policies require you to insure your dwelling to at least 80% of its full replacement cost. Fall below that and claim payouts can be reduced proportionally — even on partial losses.

Your next step

With a rebuild-cost target in hand, compare home insurance providers on coverage and price.
